Bernadette Conlon, a well-known, award-winning Australian accordionist, formed the Melbourne Accordion Orchestra in 2002. After Bernadette moved to the USA in 2006, accomplished accordion player and teacher Iryna Stepko directed the orchestra until 2016.
The orchestra is an affiliate member of the Accordion Society of Australia (Vic.) and in 2007 and 2008 won 1st prize in the state accordion championships.
In 2016 accordion maestro and former Zydeco Jump front man George Butrumlis became musical director and introduced some exciting, exuberant and joyous arrangements.
Joining George was Zydeco Jump founding member Gary Samolin on Drums and Percussion. “Slammin’ Sam Slamowicz completes the backline on driving electric bass.
MAO offers a delicious eclectic variety of thrilling music that will have you singing, dancing and reminiscing.
MAO’s repertoire is constantly expanding and includes music from Kurt Weill, Leonard Bernstein, rhumbas, tangos, and even some classic Aussie rock!
MAO has performed at a number of places and events including the Recital Centre in Melbourne and Federation Square as well as popular hot spots in Melbourne.
